Stop Snoring- Some Of The Suggested Remedies
Snoring is a condition that is caused by either the collapse of the airway or obstruction of the airway by the tongue while one is asleep. It is a problem experienced by many people, especially non-snorers who sleep close to a snorer. This is because, the noise produced is loud enough to keep you awake the whole night, not forgetting that, it is very irritating. There are many remedies that have been suggested for snorers, but they may not all work effectively in the same way for everyone.
Among the remedies that have been suggested include elevating the head by sleeping on a pillow. The pillow should be thick enough to give proper comfort to the head, but not to push the neck out of alignment with the spine. If you are a snorer and you are overweight, try losing a few pounds.
Losing excess fat will help open up the air way and reduce blockage by the extra piece of flesh around the area. It has also been suggested that sleeping on the side, as compared to sleeping on the back, will go a long way in curbing snoring tendencies. Sleeping on the back has a tendency of pushing the tongue backwards towards the throat and hence blocking the air passage. It also makes the upper palate hit against the uvulas hence producing the snore.
As a tip to avoiding lying on the back, you could try placing a small tennis ball at the back of your sleeping garment. The discomfort will just jolt you back into the side position. Try to stick to this position as your regular sleeping position. One more tip, which has to do with your feeding habits, is avoiding a fat meal before going to bed. This is because the food will push your stomach to the diaphragm and this will limit the breathing mechanism.
